Is your digital camera clean?
In my opinion today's digital cameras are a marvel of technology.
Light enters the lens where it hits a digital sensor that converts the signal into a series of 1s and 0s. The camera's brain uses that information to create a photograph. However, the sensor collects dust and the dust may show up on the final photograph. Newer cameras such as Canon 40D have automatic sensor cleaning. The sensor is cleaned by sonic vibrations. If you don't have a newer camera then you may need to buy a special cleaning kit or to have your camera cleaned by a professional. To check for dust on your camera you need to lower your f-stop and shoot a photo of a clear sky. Lowering your f-stop means putting the f-stop at a higher number. The f-stop signifies the aperture or opening of your lens. Use your highest f stop (f 22) and try different ISO settings to see the result.. I took a shot at f 22 and noticed that my camera is in need of cleaning. Try it for yourself. You might be amazed. ![]() In this next photo I used a curves adjustment layer in photoshop to further enhance the dust so you could see it more clearly. ![]() Last edited by todd : 05-12-2008 at 09:02 AM. |

Well...Those could be all the little flies that were buzzing around me while I took the photo. But really...I need to clean my sensor. The snake thing is really Michigan's version of the Loch Ness Monster.
BTW. I just booked my first wedding. I am shooting on June 6th as a second shooter. Oh but that's not all. The person who hired me is also a wedding photographer. He hired me to shoot his daughter's wedding. Last edited by todd : 05-12-2008 at 09:36 AM. |
