Hi Shaun welcome to the site!! This is a fairly new site and I believe you are the first Member from Australia!
Well.....where to begin? Orlando Florida well, you already mentioned everything Disney here so lets move on. "Cypress Gardens Adventure Park", Gatorland , Discovery Cove......and of course if you're a music lover there is Hard Rock Cafe'.....International Trolley and Train Museum (your child will like this one!) and also The Kennedy space center is about 50 miles away from Orlando (you gotta see that one!).....also nearby is Daytona Beach.......Nasa , Cape Canaveral.....I believe here they have space flight simulators? ....if your lucky you might meet an Astronaut.
If you're into Art you can go to the Orland museum of Art, and other florida districts that thrive with artifacts!
Other fun Places in Orlando include: Ripley's believe or not - Wonder Works and others!
If you want to fit right in just remember to wear a gators shirt! lol
Our good friend and member "convicker" is from Florida.... I hope he reads this and fills in the blanks...
Anybody else?
Shaun let me know what your interests are....that will give me a better idea.

sorry I was half asleep when I put this thread up. Here is some more

*We are flying from LA to Orlando.

* 26 nights - 5 nights Anaheim, 1 Orlando, 1 night Oxford, 1 night Huntsville, 1 night Corinth, 2 nights Memphis, 2 nights Nashville, 2 nights Atlanta, 10 nights Disneyworld.

*Oxford AL - Talladega Speedway
*Huntsville - Rocket Center
*Memphis - Graceland, Civil Rights and Ride the Duck

*Corinth just stayin over night so we can get to Memphis early. Nashville not sure what we are doing there. Atlanta thinking of CNN tour and World of Coca Cola not sure what else there is to do there.

*We are driving to them places because we didn't want to be stuck in a plane... plus we can see more of your country by driving, think of all the little places that aren't tourist places where we will stop.

Hi Joe,

We were thinking of going to Hard Rock Cafe' for my g/f daughter's 13th birthday.
We love motorsports but as you can see we are really doing anything to do with that, we are going out to Daytona while we are in Orlando and Talladega thats why we are staying at Oxford.

Helpful florida information

Hi,

I am a member from Florida, and if you are going to be in Orlando for 10 days, you should check NASA's website (NASA - Home) for information on upcoming space shuttle launches. If one happens to be on the date(s) you will be in Orlando, Kennedy Space Center is less than an hour away. The shuttle launch is a wonder to behold, and will make an impression on any children who might be with you. Also, if there are no launches, there are tours on the website that allow you to have a meal with an astronaut as well as get autographs.

Disneyland is nice, but for the money, I am more impressed with Universal Studios, and, believe it or not, Sea World is probably the best kept secret for a family outing. While you are in Atlanta, be careful what areas you venture into, Crime is a problem there (I used to live there). I noted that you are visiting a civil rights attraction in Memphis, and Atlanta has the Martin Luther King Center administered by the National Parks Service. If you visit the National Park Services web site (www.nps.gov), you might also be able to find some information on some other destinations while you are in certain cities. I almost forgot, Stone Mountain is near Atlanta and is a very nice little place to go, and the Centennial Center (from the Atlanta Olympics) is really cool also.

As you are driving down I-75 from Atlanta to Orlando, about 5 hours into the trip, on the Florida-Georgia border, there is an attraction called Wild Adventures. It is pretty cool, and very affordable. They have a water park as well as many rides and a zoo. It is not as spectacular as it sounds, but for the money, I would recommend it.

Hope this information assists you, even though it sounds as though you have your trip mostly planned out.

It was very before Michigan. I was a teenager and lived in a little community near the airport called Hapeville. It was in 1981-1983. A lot has changed since then...Atlanta now has SMOG on certain days and it is horrendous. Everytime I drive through there on my way to MIchigan, it amazes me how Atlanta is slowly but surely consuming the smaller communities that border it. Pretty soon, it will be as big as Jacksonville (the largest town in the US, Well the city that covers the most acreage).

Atlanta is a fun place to visit. There is a six flags outside of town toward Douglasville, and if you are into the nightlife there are many places to go. The zoo is spectacular, a great place for children of all ages to visit, and if you have time check out a braves game right next to the zoo. The underground is a town built underneath the streets of Atlanta. As you know Atlanta was under a siege right before the end of the civil war, and during the siege union troops shelled downtown atlanta heavily, after the siege the city was reconstructed and the remenants of peachtree square were excavated and the new atlanta was built on top. It is a must see, and has many great places to eat, and drink, and by the way make sure you check out the everburning flame of the confederacy located at the far end of the underground.
Orlando is a great place to vacation. Aside from Disneyworld there are many attractions to see and many fun things to do. Ripley's Believe it or Not is located in Orlando and is a great way to kill an afternoon. Universal Studios is also an attraction that should be on your list of things to see. If you have time take a trip south and tour the everglades (just a short distance outside of town). The South is a great place to visit, make sure you pack suntan lotion because it will still be pretty warm at the time of the year you are vacationing.
